Fall in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Yellow Aspen Trees + Fresh Snow.

We enjoyed a beautiful fall weekend with sunny skies and warm weather.  Today's a different story.  We woke up to rain and low clouds.  Now that the clouds have lifted, we can look up and see that the upper slopes have received a fresh dusting of snow.  The mountain dwellers are posting photos from around the mountains, and the buzz is in the air.  Skiing's on the brain.  This is the time of year where we all jones for the feeling of sliding on the snow, but have a few more months to wait.

I went up to Ten Mile Station to retrieve vases and saw Mt. Baldy covered in snow, with yellow aspen trees below on Boreas Pass.  It's not too late to enjoy the fall colors, the snow won't stick in the lower elevations, so don't let a bit of clouds and cool air stop you.  Just bundle up, because as the saying goes, "there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad choices in clothing!"

I've been out and about and the following images are taken from in and around Summit County, inluding the road leading up to Montezuma near Keystone, the Lily Pad Lake trail, and a few local trails in Breckenridge.  I hope you were able to come up and do some leaf peeping, and if not, I hope these images will show you what fall weddings in the Breckenridge could be like.  And yes, that means it could be sunny and warm, or it could be cloudy, cool, rainy and possibly even snowing. 

This is the view of Mt. Quandary, Summit County's only 14er from Highway 9 in Blue River.  This popular peak is one of the easier 14ers, but don't let that fool you. Mountains are unforgiving, so please plan ahead, carry a map and the proper supplies to avoid any epics.  Boring trips in the mountains are what you want.  Well, I call them boring, but that just means nothing traumatic or dramatic happens.  Just go out, have fun, but make sure you come back home safe.  A good idea is to always let someone know where you going, who you're with and when you'll be back.
