Today's feature is all about Shantel + Matt: Colorado Wedding at the Copper Mountain Resort with images courtesy of J. La Plante Photo. If you're driving to Breckenridge or Vail, it's right after the second exit to Frisco. A stunning drive through Ten Mile Canyon brings you to Copper Mountain. This world-class ski area is usually one of the first to open during the winter, and is a great option when planning a destination wedding at one of the mountain towns of Summit County. Everyone could easily stay at Copper for the week as basecamp, while branching out to explore.
Destination Resort in the Rocky Mountains
The couple chose a mid-mountain venue, Solitude Station for their ceremony. Not suitable for a reception, guests ride the chairlifts up and then back down to the base of the mountain, where the reception is. The Grand Hall has huge windows with ski slopes out the back door. I've been to a winter wedding here and the lights of the snowcats could be seen going up and down the mountain while the snow was falling. Copper Mountain holds a special place in Shantel and Matt’s hearts. Shantel grew up skiing at Copper and it’s where she taught Matt how to ski. She gave him some strong motivation, too. When they started dating, she told him that if he wanted to see her at all during the winter, he’d have to learn how to ski. And it worked!
In the winter, you’ll most likely find them on the slopes or at Endo’s Adrenaline Cafe. So, it made perfect sense for them to have their wedding at the top of the American Eagle lift. Guests were treated to a scenic chairlift ride to the ceremony site and breathtaking views while Shantel and Matt exchanged vows.
The party commenced inside Copper Station (just in time for a summer rainstorm to move through) and, with a little help from Dancin’ Shoes DJ, everyone celebrated long into the brisk mountain evening. Special DIY to note: Matt made the wooden box that Shantel had her earrings in and the cornhole boards guests used at the reception.
