Shelby + Caleb | A High Alpine Elopement
their story
We met at dinner during the first night of a summer study abroad trip in Florence, Italy. Our group of 40 people went to a small pizzeria to celebrate our arrival. Our classmates were arranging the tables to accommodate the group, and seats were filling up quickly. We were both shy about finding a place to sit, which meant we ended up being the last two people standing. The only available seating was a table for two.
This moment in time for us is best described by a quote from one of our favorite books - The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: “So, I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you.”
Why did you choose to elope? Why that specific location?
Honestly, we wanted to be surrounded by mountains rather than people. We wanted to be in awe of the beauty of our surroundings rather than to be stressed about being in front of a crowd.
What was your favorite part of the wedding day? Was it different for each of you?
Our favorite part of the wedding day was everything! Shelby enjoyed getting her hair and makeup done at the Breckenridge Hair Company while Caleb explored the shops. We ate delicious crepes from Crepes a la Carte while getting ready at the Lodge at Breckenridge. We absolutely loved the location that Emily chose for our ceremony at Loveland Pass. The ceremony was even more beautiful because of the vows Melissa prepared and the poem she read for us. Everything just felt so right - the cool mountain breeze, the flowers, the promises we exchanged. It was truly the moment we had been waiting for. After the ceremony, we had a wonderful meal at the Breckenridge Distillery. The kindness of the people of Breckenridge made our wedding day even more special than we could have ever imagined.

What do you love the most about one another?
Shelby: I love his kindness. Caleb is one of the most caring people I have ever met. Through his love, I have learned to love myself.
Caleb: I love her sense of humor and how compassionate she is. By sharing her strong sense of empathy with me, she’s made me a better, more aware person.
