Juliana + Derrick: Winter Park Wedding at the Lodge at Sunspot
Winter Park, Colorado Destination Wedding
Today's post is all about Juliana + Derrick: Winter Park Wedding at the Lodge at Sunspot with images courtesy of Corrie B Photography LLC, submitted via Two Bright Lights. Most of you probably have heard of having a destination wedding in Breckenridge or Vail, but Winter Park is another great choice for mountain resort nuptials. It's an awesome mountain to explore during the winter, and an exciting location for Rocky Mountain romance.
Colorado Mountain Towns and Ski Resorts
Some weddings happen in the valley or base areas of the ski resorts. Other times, couples can choose to have guests transported via gondola or chairlift to a mid-mountain or top of mountain venue or location. Just be aware of potential weather impacts on that transportation. What I mean is that the Breckenridge gondola and chairlifts will stop running when lightning is present. Discuss the different scenarios of delays and anything that could affect a timeline you create. With enough foresight and planning, contingency plans will be on standby, ready for action if need be. That's where having a day-of coordinator or full-on wedding planner on hand. We know individuals and companies with experience and integrity, so if you need pairing with one of those, we can create a custom wedding package that includes whatever kind of wedding planning help you'll need. Juliana and Derrick picked the most beautiful spot for their Winter Park weekend wedding last summer. The air was cool up on the mountain for the morning, but warmer down below. By the time the ceremony began, the sun was out warming the guests and creating a most delightful experience. The Lodge at Sunspot is not only a warm safe haven in the winter to grab a cup of hot cocoa after a long skiing run, but it turns out to be an amazing wedding venue in the summer as well.I had the honor of playing with Juliana and Derrick all day long. They decided on a “First Look” which made for a fun and relaxed day where we could get all the shots they wanted, and then some!
That’s every photographer’s dream. We rode the ski lift up to the beautiful landing earlier in the day for some special moments and alone time for Juliana and Derrick. It was so fun to see all the decorations and details before everyone got up there. These two clearly enjoy life. They had smiles all day long! When we got to the top of the mountain, Juliana and Derrick began to explore all their hard work set up and ready for the ceremony. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Juliana’s Grandmother made their Chuppah and Derrick made the stand.
Inside the Lodge at Sunspot, every detail was covered by the amazing staff. I had the honor of working with Laura Pearson the day of the wedding. I, hands down, would recommend her in a heartbeat for any bride wanting to enjoy their day and have not a care in the world. Laura had everything under control and was by far the most helpful person to my and my assistant the entire day.
These two love birds brought their dogs to join in on the photos who were dressed to the nines. They loving pups cuddled right into their mama, which she didn’t blink to having them sit with her and her dress. That’s what I love about Juliana and Derrick. Easy going. The Ketubah that Juliana and Derrick signed was absolutely beautiful. I have a particular affinity to this artwork. Trees have always been a piece of my life, and this couple is so lucky to have this stunning piece of art hang in their home. I also love Juliana's unique wedding band. It was made by Derrick's father, which I think is so sweet and special.
