Abbey + Dylan | Disney Themed Intimate Colorado Wedding
abbey + dylan | a backyard wedding at home
On our very first phone call, Abbey & I connected over our shared history with South Dakota. We with Midwestern ties tend to stick together, ya know. That first phone call felt like two friends, catching up on life. We talked about our lives and backgrounds, and with absolute bliss, she shared with me all about Dylan. It was immediately clear how smitten these two are and how much it would mean to photograph their intimate wedding day.
This Colorado wedding day didn’t look like our first plan. In fact, there were 5 days there where we were planning on postponing due to COVID. But then we got creative. Abbey + Dylan didn’t want a large wedding, but it was so important to them that their siblings and parents be there. That put us a bit over the current gathering guidelines in Colorado, so their parents sat nearby for their ceremony while their siblings all gathered a safe distance away from the deck, cheering and watching from afar. Getting creative in their guests’ distancing allowed Abbey & Dylan to marry on their original date, at their dream home. What made this even more special was the fact that they were married in their own backyard, exactly one year, to the day, after they closed on that home. It may not have been plan A, but it was better than anything we all could’ve dreamed.
Planning a wedding should never be stressful - we stand firm in that belief, but lately there’s just no way around it. Dates are changing, guest lists are downsizing, plans are getting completely thrown to the wayside. Give yourself time to be sad about it - that’s fine! But then, get creative. Rethink a few things. I promise you that even though things may look different, your wedding day will still be perfect.

Share a bit about your favorite parts of your wedding day. Why was having an elopement important to you?
Our favorite part of the day was how intimate and special it felt only having our immediate families there. This is what drew us to eloping initially. I have a huge extended family and we really wanted the day to be about us, not meeting other peoples expectations. It was also extra special that we got married on our property a year after closing on our house. Our day really was prefect! Better than we could have ever imagined.
What would you tell other couples who want to elope?
If you are thinking of eloping, stop thinking about it and do it!!! It is the best decision we ever made.
What did you enjoy about the planning process?
I loved how stress free the planning process was. Shanna really handled everything, she was absolutely amazing. I can't imagine trying to do the planning on my own.
are you ready to do this thing? Let’s start planning!
